Anti-wrinkle injections, also known as botulinum toxin injections, are a popular non-surgical cosmetic treatment designed to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles on the face. This treatment involves the injection of botulinum toxin medication into specific facial muscles, causing them to relax. As a result, the wrinkles and lines caused by muscle contractions, such as crow's feet, frown lines, and forehead lines, become less noticeable or even disappear.

The procedure is quick and minimally invasive, typically taking only a few minutes to complete. Prior to the injections, Dr Michael Zoran will assess your facial features and discuss your aesthetic goals to determine the appropriate injection sites. A very fine needle is then used to administer the medication to the targeted muscles. Most patients experience minimal discomfort or no pain at all.

The effects of anti-wrinkle injections are not immediate but gradually become noticeable over the course of a few days to a week, reaching their full effect within a couple of weeks. The results can last anywhere from three to six months, after which the muscle activity gradually returns, and wrinkles may reappear. To maintain the desired appearance, patients usually need to undergo periodic touch-up treatments.

All your questions answered!

What is anti-wrinkle medication?

Anti-wrinkle medications such as Botox, Dysport and Letybo are a type of neurotoxin made from a special bacteria called Clostridium Botulinum. It is used for various medical and cosmetic purposes, including temporarily smoothing facial wrinkles.

How does it work?

These medications work by blocking nerve signals in the muscles where it is injected. By relaxing the muscle, the skin above cannot fold as frequently which helps to soften and heal the wrinkles on the face. The muscle-relaxing effect also assists with headaches and jaw pain by temporarily reducing muscle strength

Are anti-wrinkle injections safe?

When administered by a trained and qualified professional it is generally considered safe. It is important to have a thorough consultation to ensure you meet the criteria for treatment.

What areas can be treated?

Most commonly, medications like Botox are commonly used to treat wrinkles and lines on the face. But it can also be used in other areas such as for sweating and muscle tension.

How long does an anti-wrinkle treatment take?

Injections are a quick procedure, often taking about 5-10 minutes to treat an entire face.

When will I see the results, and how long do they last?

Results usually become noticeable within a few days to a week after treatment, with full effects appearing in about two weeks. The effects are temporary and generally last 3-6 months.

Does the treatment hurt?

Most people report only mild discomfort during injections. The needles used are very small and thin, unlike those used for blood tests. Numbing cream, ice and other distraction devices can be used if you are more prone to discomfort.

Are there any side effects?

Common side effects are mild and temporary, including bruising, swelling, and redness at the injection site. Side effects such as brow drooping or eyelid drooping are rare. Should they occur, they do not last the length of the treatment but typically 2-5 weeks.

How often should I have anti-wrinkle injections?

The frequency of injections varies among everyone. Most clients will have repeat treatments every 3-4 months.

Can anyone get anti-wrinkle injections?

Whilst these treatments are generally safe for the majority of people, they may not be suitable for pregnant or breastfeeding women, individuals with certain neuromuscular disorders, or those allergic to the ingredients in certain medications.
